A wizard in the service of the First.
The background of the Conjurer before his arrival at Branderscar Prison:
Average. That is how most described Galen's younger years. Fine for many people, but for the youngest son of Argen Furst, a scion family of House Leroung in noble Cheliax, average doesn't cut it. Among a family full of prominent arcane casters and Hellnights, it is humiliating, both to son and father. Weak in body and mind, Galen could be neither Hellnight nor Signifier. Bullied by his older siblings and disrespected by the younger, Galen was forgotten by anyone of significance.
On his twelfth nameday, his father apprenticed him to a Pesh-addicted alchemist bound for Talingarde, paying but a mere pittance to rid his family of their shame. For close to a decade, the master treated Galen as a hindrance, teaching him only the most rudimentary of alchemical creations. Punishments were frequent and he was fed the scraps from the plates of his master and the talented apprentices.
On his 22nd nameday, he prayed in secret to Asmodeus, cursing Mitra’s name and promising to bring the Lord of Nessus’ faithful to the continent. Bargaining his soul for power over life and death, Galen gained hidden knowledge from the god of magic and was marked by his god. Now, anyone who looked at him in the eyes could see the favor of Asmodeus. With his new-found talents, Galen quickly surpassed his master's other apprentices, though that wasn't hard when they began falling ill.
A bad batch of Pesh was the official cause of death for Amir al Hasan, Master Alchemist. Lacking the physical strength to exact his vengeance he planned his attacks carefully, seeking out like-minded conspirators and disseminating information. Eventually his searching took him to the Dingy Toad, a wharf-side bar in the capital of Matharyn. There he met up with a group of like-minded individuals. Unfortunately, the group also included inquisitors of the Shining God, who charged Galen with sedition and sent him to Branderscar prison to rot.
